Tasting night 17 years 9 months ago #1

Hi All. Thanks to everyone for a great event last night. It was a bit overwhelming! So many beers - so little time. Especially thanks to Geoff for allowing us to take over half the pub, and for the excellent food provided. I'm not sure what time the rest of you finished up at, but I made the 11.30 bus home.

PS: In this mornings METRO, there's a photo of the Belgian ambassador in the Porterhouse drinking from an oversized Leffe glass at the launch of the Belgian Beerfest there.

I thought it was surprisingly civilised. Y'know, for a free-for-all. I think we did justice to the selection and things weren't rushed.

The particularly outstanding brews for me were n1mbus's Ginger Wit, Blacckhawk's Irish Red, oblivious's Imperial Porter, silenus's strawberry sui-cider, and obviously Freedgull's Chipotle Chili Stout.

But well done to everyone.

I've created an album[/url:1yazhkcw] for the photos and stuck mine in it. If anyone wants to send me theirs I'll include them.

I also took some (bad) snaps of some of the labels[/url:1yazhkcw] on the night. Apologies for the quality.

I notice that modfan77 got caught by the trading standards people during the evening.

I didn't even hear them come in.

Thanks to Geoff and the staff at B&C for putting up with us and to the brewers who brought in such a wide range of great beers. There were some lovely brews there. I really liked n1mbus's Gingery Wit, Kitoog's American Brown Ale and Joeby's Imperial Stout.

Geoff, I brought home that bottle of Strawberry cider, took it out of my bag and it was hissing at me! I opened it to allow some air out, after your warnings about exploding bottles, and had a sneaky taste too. It was excellent!

It all went very well. Far more civilised than I anticipated. I particulary enjoyed The Tonglegee Simcoe pale ale and Geoff's strawbery cider. Fergal's chilli stout was a bit special too.
