As i am aware, the list as it is presented was not voted by any particular system, was it not more to cover up the fact that GH had been given an impromptu award consisting of a medal they had already recieved elsewhere.

Obviously as you say the more people who vote the less relevant their personal bias, my point being that the judges should ideally be suited to their category if you do not like the style don't judge on it directly, the best beer award could perhaps be voted for separately and should ideally be selected from the winners of the seperate categories. is this not the way a fair democracy is run, you choose your party(e.g. ill judge wheat beers because i like them etc.), choose the candidates(a favourite beer for each category is chosen by the interested parties), and elect the best( a delegated panel offers their opinions on each beer and chooses one as overall winner). ok so its not exactly like a democracy but getting the judges to try all the beers although fun, is a little unfeasable don't you think

Sequence of events:
1 We voted on beers at the festival. GH was deemed beer of the festival
2 This gets mentioned in article about GH
3 Barry puts graphic together

The list as is presented was voted on at the festival, the proper graphics were an 'after thought'.

BITR, as for 'judges should ideally be suited to their category', I would imagine there's enough objective opinion here to overcome that.

good to clear that up, i had only pieced the information from various conversations around the beer table, thats why i had to keep saying things like "i think" "as far as im aware" etc.

If we're lucky we'd end up with three or four judges in each category, meaning one person's bias carries 25-33% of the vote.

If we had enough competitors and enough judges, this would be great. But we won't.

And if it's not feasible, it's just a question of adjusting the calculations to take into account the number of judges voting. The important thing would be to make sure as many judges voted on as many beers as possible.

objective opinion i have no quarrels with, my main reason for campaigning for the styles format is from an organisation point of view, obviously it is going to be harder to organise a full panel of judges to taste all drinks on offer than it would be to organise one or two judges to sample a particular style and vote for their favourite. it would still be possible to opt for a gold silver bronze type of awards for this format, simply by just picking the best three from the finalists of the previous categories, either way i see there is a democratic poll up now and it may be easiest to go with popular public demand.
