With the "summer" almost upon us I was wondering if there are any Homebrew competitions happening in the country. I used to enjoy the CAMRA gigs when I lived in the UK and would be interested in entering a beer in competition some time in the future.

Are there Beer categories in Co. Shows or other events?

Is there an Irish equivalent the American Beer Judge Certification Program out there this side of the pond?

Unfortunately the answer to all of your questions is no!

Trouble brewing run an annual (I've said it so now it must become true) homebrew competition but other than that there is nothing at the moment, there was talk on her about a homebrew competition at one stage or another but it has not yet materialised.

I'd also love to have an Irish equivalent of the BJCP because though I know we are useless when it comes to runnign things I think we'd be less BJCP about things then they are.

We have one in the planning in Revolution bar in Waterford as part of our south-east meet.
All will be invited to enter.

The Americans are mad into these competitions aswell. I'd love to enter a couple of beers into a competition just to get scorecards and feedback on them. I could take or leave the competitive element.

Thats actually a very good idea, they have competitions for best hen and tastiest bun, why not brewing.
