hey Guys,

Im heading to belfast with the boss (the missus) for a night in a couple of weeks, heading up on saturday morning and back sunday evening,

I wanted to hit a few bars for a few nice pints on the saturday afternoon while she is shopping,

Is their any good recommendations in the city centre for a few good cask pints

Bit of a cliché, but your best bet is The Crown: if they have Belfast Black on you need go no further. The John Hewitt is quite decent and has a couple of Hilden beers. For the biggest selection, there's The Bridge House Wetherspoon, but it's the scuzziest Wetherspoon I've ever been in. I don't recommend it.

Other than that, do a search for other threads on Belfast and check the pub list[/url:6tt9xeyf]. I did a blog post on my trip a few months back here[/url:6tt9xeyf].

I was up there a few months back at a Metallica concert with a few lads, we only managed to hit 2 or 3 pubs.

The Crown bar[/url:hzllje8k]
Nice place, very touristic and jammed. They had 3 Whitewater casks on when we were there; Belfast ale, Clothworthy Dobbin and Crown glory. Very tasty cask beer but a little bit too bustly to enjoy. No where to sit. Worth a visit though.

Enjoyed this pub, quieter afair. Nice staff and a few nice beers on draught and cask. Much less busy than the Crown. When we were there they had 2 casks, Halt by Hilden and Mollys Chocolate Stout as well. They also had Belfast black and Kostritzer on draught as well as a few others. Some Whitewater bottles also in the fridge. Def worth a visit.

Also went to the Duke of York on the walk back. Nice pub, but standard afair drinks wise, bottled Guinness being my drink of choice.

I've never been impressed by Clotworthy Dobbin on cask -- the hops just get blended away into nothing. Bottle and keg are both better.

I much preferred it on keg than in the bottle.
