Hometown fightback: it’s time to get the ball rolling 16 years 3 weeks ago #1

David McWilliams has a piece here[/url:ubrcchp0] about the importance of local trade.

[quote:ubrcchp0]it is essential that communities in Ireland come together in the recession. So many towns in our country have so much to offer in terms of festivals, tourism or one-off events. This is the way communities are re-built. I saw the energy in my own home town last night. This can be repeated everywhere all over the country. This is the opportunity in this crisis, the opportunity to come together. Let’s get the ball rolling.[/quote:ubrcchp0]

What role does craft beer have in helping this community renewel. Is on site brewing like Messr's or Tig Bhric needed or would branded beer from Irish Micro's like the b&c or gingerman have?

But I'd say you support more local workers and put more money into the local economy by drinking Heineken than you do drinking Franciscan Well beer. I'd be interested to see the numbers on that, though I doubt they're available.

Like the environmental argument, the economic argument for craft beer doesn't always stack up. The principle and the taste are much better arguments, IMO.
