Not as much as Ireland is. I remember hearing a good few years ago that Murphys had 20% of the UK stout market.

When I was in Edinburgh quite a few places had Samuel Smith's stout on tap, and the pub across the road had THeakstons old peculier.

If anyone's near Oran Mor on Byres Road try their Dark Beer. It's locally brewed (according to the tag) and it's pretty yum. Like a totally different world being able to walk into a pub for the first time and see such a thing as "locally brewed" written on a tap label!

I've taken a liking to something called "Midnight Sun" porter. It's got "rich, spicy porter" on the label and it's just that. Nice n roasty (sorry I'm not great with descrptions!

Midnight Sun is a black Porter style beer, created from a blend of malted barley, oats, roast barley and chocolate malt, balanced with a generous handful of hops and a wee bit of fresh root ginger.

We realy like it and hope you do too!
