What Beers should a good Beer bar stock?
[i:3iu26zp9]( no its not a tongue twister)[/i:3iu26zp9]

This is a question which I suppose could turn into a guide for publicans and off-licences offering advice on what beers they should stock at a minimum.

to start the ball rolling I think we can safely add this one

1. Galway Hooker

Just cos I likes stouts

1. Galway Hooker
2. O 'Hara's Stout
3. Beamish Stout

There's an argument that a Bar should stock beer that will sell the best. No point in getting in a load of speciality beers only to throw them out unsold once they're out of date, but I do get what you're saying.

I'd definitely go with O'Hara's and

1. Galway Hooker
2. O 'Hara's Stout
3. Beamish Stout
4. Hoegaarden
5. St. Bernardus Witbier

I like me Wits!

To cover the maximum number of drinking moods I'd recommend adding:

Duvel (or similar strong Belgian blonde)
Westmalle Dubbel (or similar Belgian dark)
Goose Island IPA (or similar hoppy American pale/amber/India pale ale)
O'Hara's Stout (or similar dry bottled stout)
Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (or similar strong dark ale or Imperial stout)
Schneider Weisse (or similar Bavarian weizen)
Hoegaarden (or similar Belgian wit; preferably on draught)
Hobgoblin (or similar English Pale Ale)
Budvar (or similar pale lager; preferably on draught)

And this list goes for restaurants as well as bars and offies. No food-only beers <!-- s:x --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mad.gif" alt=":x" title="Mad" /><!-- s:x -->

Very minimum, they should stock a wheat beer of some sort, (this is for every bar not just a good beer bar) some sort of readily available wheat beer such as paulaner or erdinger both of which are readily available to the average publican.

after that i would like to see duvel, Galway hooker (on draught),the carlow brewing range (draught or bottle), franciscan or porterhouse beers (selection on draught).

at the very least for ales a good stock of spitfire, and bishops finger from Shepard neame along with some others that i'm sure someone else will post.

For the stronger beer i would like to see at least three trappist/abbey beers from belgium and Delerium Tremens (wherever available)
