Haven't been in myself and I would agree with the "dodgy looking from outside" comments, but we have friends who swear the Royal Oak in Kilmainham is a very welcoming, comfy spot - with open fire and friendly dog if I remember their account correctly.

Dare I raise the question of what folks think of the oldest Dublin pub (ok, inn if you want to get pedantic), the Brazen Head? Despite it being our closest pub, we don't go in from year to year, can't handle the coachloads sipping glasses of Guinness with "hmmm, different" looks on their faces.

Cheers, bighair

the Brazen Head is the only pub I've ever been in where the pint bottle of Guinness is cheaper than the pint.

Crap pub though....really crap

I think Ryans Parkgate St. (some good bottled beer)[listed Victorian bar love the old brass match striking plates] maybe Walshs in Stoneybatter deserve a mention

Again I quite like the Brazen Head but I'm only ever in there around Christmas time, so it just reminds me of Christmas.

'the lounge' in slattery's is epic. its a corridor witha bench on one side and a shelf for your pint opposite. lovely spot. anyplace with a snug has a place in my heart. is Keogh's short on toilets? last time i was there i had to literally trek up and down a few flights of stairs to take a leak. is it any wonder i was tired and emotional by the end of the night <!-- s:oops: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_redface.gif" alt="" title="Embarassed" /><!-- s:oops: -->

Ryan's is a lovely pub, with the added benefit of great food and Hooker on tap - I think they might also have Blarney Blonde?
