'Spoons in Waterford? 11 years 4 months ago #1

According to Waterford Local Radio this morning Weatherspoons have bought two premises in Waterford City centre, one in John Roberts Square (no pubs actually in the square but T&Hs is just off as is the Olde Stande both closed for a while and large enough) and another in Arundel Square (City Arms is the obvious choice, biggish open space and empty for a few years)
I am not sure how I feel about this, I welcome more pubs (re)opening in Waterford and the possibility of cask ale choices, but, the few spoons I have been in I haven't liked

I used live above Wallace Electrical on Arundel Sq. Is the City Arms still open? I had many happy pints in there.

It closed a few years ago Shane. Stephen Wadding has opened again recently only a few yards away where Fitzgeralds/Flash's/Plan B used to be on High Street under the name The City Arms in the last few months.
It must be unique that the same person has had a pub by the same name in three different locations in the city

Just looking at Google Street View and the City Arms used to be where River Island is now[/url:19ox51c1]?

Haha never noticed it had been converted! That will tell you what I thought of it as a pub. The only other pub in Arundel square was Johnny Aylwards Arundel Inn and that is gone a long time

Oddly I switched on the radio after I was texted the news and there has been no mention of it since, I haven't been able to find any mention of it online either.

I did hear that they were interested in T&Hs but felt it was too small and I just heard a few minutes ago that they had shown interest in the old TSB bank in Arundel Square but where they would get a licence I don't know.

It was a bit of a kip, and even though we were regulars they never seemed happy to serve any students, us included.

T&H's doesn't match the profile. I'd imagine it's on the list of protected structures so can't be gutted.

But, it sounds like someone is pulling your leg?
