Brewing demos / courses 13 years 5 months ago #1

Hi there - I hope someone might be able to help me. My husband is very keen on craft beers/ales and I am hoping to find out if any of the breweries here in Ireland do courses or have demonstrations that I could arrange for him to attend?

I've gone to some of the websites from the various breweries I know but can't spot anything.

Any help would be appreciated. He's unlikely to start brewing his own but would be very interested in understanding more about how it's made and what makes beers/ales different.

Thank you!

Hi Wileen,

I know its short notice (VERY) but have a look at this link:

Check out the NHC!

We are about to start brewing demonstrations in Dublin tomorrow.

However the Dublin branch will be actively brewing in the centre of town.

Some of the micro-breweries will do tours but for in depth help and knowledge we can help.

Where are you based?

Most of us homebrewers will welcome a newcomer into our brew day and show him or her the ropes

Hi Will, thanks very much for coming back to me. Is it starting at 10.30am?

Husband is out tonight at his work Christmas do. I'd say there is a good chance he wouldn't be able to look at beer in the morning. That's my expectation anyway

We are in Dublin but often in Mayo as well. We also travel very well so open to anything really.

Really appreciate you coming back to me and I (he) would certainly be interested if you were doing something like that again.

Yep,

Starts at 10:30 and will run until about 4:30 or so!

It takes a good 6 hours to do an all grain brew, but we are also doing an extract brew, and a kit brew ( maybe 1 hour )

There will be a lot of talking !!!

I am the big baldy guy with the camera, Padraic is the organiser and will be doing most of the talking !!

Hope to see you and himself

The smell of mashing malt is enough to relight even the most hung over Christmas party goer!

One more thing,

If we DO start at 10:30 the first 30 mins is watching water heat up to 75 Degrees C

Whatever time you can make it there will be lots to see and talk about

Ha, I'll get him to boil the kettle and make tea for me to help him out with missing the first half hour.

I think it's unlikely we'll make it tomorrow but if there is one in the future, that would be great.
