Spent the weekend in Dusseldorf, first trip for a few years. The Alt is just as good as it was. Schumachers and Zum Schlussel were not as hoppy as Uerige but I really enjoyed all three. A 1lt bottle to take home from Scumacher cost €3, similar size bottles here in Ireland cost €10-15. Taxes, unit costs etc etc but still a very big price difference.

The Neo Prohibitionists would have aheart attack at the drinking over there. The Altstadt was completely rammed with people on Saturday from morning to night. People were drinking from early morning, quite a few casualties in the evening. BUT, they don't beat themselves up about it. If you fancy a beer at 10:30, then have one, or two, or ........... There was a steady stream of cars pulling up at the brewery pubs stocking up and returning mini kegs, not so mini kegs and large quantities of bottles. I wonder do they get bouts of guilt induced rightousness and "go on the dry for November"

All in all a great weekend. Great food, great beer and great wine, and the people ain't bad either.

Went there two years ago - went wild on the ould Alt <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> ,great atmosphere and fantastic seeing the wooden kegs coming up from the cellar been tapped and served into the little glasses ,loved how they just kept putting them down in front of you all morning. Then out to the Xmas market for some Gluhwein. A great trip for beer lovers
