What the opinion on this lot, its westmalle from the 1970s so about 40 yrs old.
Would beer from this time, even highish aBv beer be able to keep that long? Would it just be horrible or do you think is some hope of being drinkable.

I had whitbread silver jubilee ale from 1977 and it was brilliant. However those westmalle caps seem to be corroded - be careful.

You'll find a topic about vintage beers HERE[/url:jdamjts9]
Westmalle Triple 1970 and Rochefort 10 1970 are on the list as well, so there is a chance that this beer is still drinkable <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P -->

I had a 1980 Westmalle Tripel 2 Novembers ago and it was AMAZING. There was some rust under the cap though.

My recommendation is to pop the top (hopefully you get a teeny tiny hiss), then thoroughly wipe the top of the bottle that was under the cap with rubbing alcohol and then set it on fire. Both the alcohol and the fire should kill and baddies assuming that you physically removed any soil (rust).

The 30 year old was honey-delicious!
