Microbreweries in Liverpool? 13 years 10 months ago #1

I know I could just google this to find out but I just wanted to ask if anybody could recommend any microbreweries/ brew pubs in Liverpool that they have been to and would recommend? City centre preferably. Going over in August and any time Ive been there before Ive never managed to encourage the group to stray away from the usual Mattew street and O'Neills Irish pub chain... <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: -->

The Baltic Fleet is a brewpub. Bit grotty, but nice in its own way. I don't know if Liverpool Organic have a tap or do tours but their beer is always worth a punt if you see it.

Some fantastic ordinary pubs in Liverpool though, so no need to hit O'Neill's or 'Spoons. The Fly in the Loaf is craft beer heaven; just up the street there's The Phil with its legendary toilets and great pies. Dr Duncan's is Cains's tap and very nice. The Ship & Mitre also has a great selection, though it takes a while to do a full circuit of the bar to see everything that's on.

If you frequent Jims Beer kit, I'd suggest that you contact the user Critch, he's the head brewer of Liverpool organic.

I was in the Baltic fleet before, and the beers were average enough. It's fairly central though, so no harm to have a look if you are close by, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

I asked this question before and followed the Beernut's recommendations

I liked the Baltic Fleet....they had a couple of nice American hopped pale ales on cask when I was there (Summer). They run a kind of greasy spoon cafe out of half the pub. The Philharmonic has a good selection of English cask ale and lively atmosphere. Apparently John Lennon said "the price of fame is not being able to have a pint in the Phil". The Fly in the Loaf has a great selection of local and international craft but I found it a bit cold and lacking atmosphere.
