Gregorius - Stift Engelszell (Soon to be authentic trappist) 13 years 10 months ago #1

Has anyone found a bottle of Gregorius anywhere yet?

I spoke to Adam and Richard about this on Wednesday but my memory was sketchy on the whole thing.I didn't even know the name of the beer/monastery)

So here is a link to the monastery: (sprecken sie deutsch)

And the Trappist association's press Release:

In brief, a new trappist brewery are brewing a 9.7% Trippel in Austria, the beer is described by the trappist association as a "trappist beer" but does not bear the "Authentic Trappist Product" seal until "a thorough assessment by the International Trappist Association (ITA), lasting several months" has been concluded, the same abbey are able to label their liqueurs as "Authentic Trappist Product" so this is probably only a matter of time!

Yes, I had it at Braukunst Live 2012 in Munich in April. It was the first brew, and was very... banana-y, something the brewer is aware of and will be making changes. However, i would have liked to get some bottles of the first brew to see how they'd develop with a bit of age.

Some notes form me here[/url:3qjpjgk7] (just look for Gregorius, down a bit).

I thought it was already official! :/

It may well have been from your blog post that I picked up on it recently!

It appears they are to release a 7% belgian ale (that's a to the point description) called Benno. Gregorius and Benno being former Abbott's. I think I read somewhere else that there were a few more beers that were going to follow this naming convention but I can't find it again.

I'll be interested in a couple of bottles whenever they arrive here!

I reckon the officialness is really just a rubber stamping exercise! Waiting for them to nail down their recipe etc.

I was in McHugh's on the way home from work this evening getting a few brews. They were out of the Kinnegar red caps (boohoo) but Aidan offered me a bottle of this in recompense, they've just started stocking it. Haven't tried it yet, we have visitors this weekend - my wife's pal and her partner, and he likes 'anything really - Heineken, Bud, whatever you have' so I'll wait until I can give it some proper attention <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

(It's €7 / 33cl btw)
