First Sour beers 13 years 11 months ago #1

Just had two sour beers for the first time, both a Cantillion Gueuze and a Kriek.

I think I'm in love! (please don't tell Maeve <!-- s;-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";-)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;-) --> )

I've, and most other people I've talked to, have found them an acquired taste. It was much like Sushi for me, at first I hated it, then I hated it less and could see why someone might like it but "it wasn't for me", then I tried a less extreme version and I actually kind of liked the "introductory" sour beers/sushi, and now I'm really starting to get into it and like even some REALLY sour beers.

-My wife says that they taste like beer that someone else drank and then vomited so I think she's still at level 1 of her sour beer appreciation; lol!

You're in luck if you like them straight away I think. You and TraPISSED seem to be in a minority of people for whom sour beers are love at first sip.

I've slowly been getting into them more and more.

They are hard at first but as time goes on they grow and grow.

I started with the easy sweetened ones, but have moved on to the more challenging ones.

Get yourself to the land of sprouts and go on the brewery tour!

Yeah, something really refreshing about them. It's the dryness that Surprised me most, especially with the Kriek. I thought the Kreik would be sweet, but it was really dry too!

Gotta try more (and do the tour <!-- s;-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";-)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;-) --> )

Turns out it was love at first sip! Quickly followed it with a Rodenbach Grand Cru (wish I had this coming out of my taps) and a Cantillon Iris from Bier Circus.

I credit it to a childhood of malic acid coated sweets and Granny Smiths!
