Alternative to Cornies 14 years 1 week ago #1

Has anyone seen the kegs from the site below? Any comments or has anyone had any experience of them?

Thought they can be used instead of the corny kegs. Will bang off email later to get some prices.

A lot of people who has hand pump systems use the plastic casks. I have nor seen any one use the plastic kegs, but remember that plastic is O2 permeable so long tern storage might be an issue, those kegs are only rate to 60psi (this probably wont be such an issue) and cooling maybe be less efficient than a SS keg

Although i think they could be handy for quick turn around beer

A lot of the guys over on Jims are starting to use these plastic firkins, the smaller craft breweries are also using them, I would not worry about oxygen permeability, it doesn't seem to bother the pros.
The brown 4.5 gallon pin is quite a popular one that I see a lot of the lads using.

<edit> the pins not a cornie alternative as they are casks for cask ale. The other kegs would mostly be just that, kegs and you'd need a pub system for dispensing, I'm not sure how much of the cornie gear would be reusable.

The small brown barrels are around 20£ I think. Very reasonable. By the pallet they are probably a less.......

I assume the only difference between a corny system is the disconnects for a corny Vs the tapping head required for the kegs.
Candirect sell the "tapping heads" (thats what we called them when i worked in the pub trade, think theyre called something else).
But as long after that you can use the same dispensing taps and gas - the most you'll need is a couple of converters/resizers if the beer/gas line is different size.

But... If you dont have any system at all, cornies dont matter.

One of the great things about cornies is the size of the opening for the lid and the ability to give them a good clean.
Not sure what the opening would be like on these, if its anything like standard kegs, they'd probably be tricky enough to clean throughly.
