Yeast issue! 14 years 1 month ago #1

question in relation to secondary fermentation, this is only my second batch to date at the moment however i have brewed apple juice etc before. i have added priming sugar dissolved in boiling water and 4 campden tablets crushed up for sterilization. After i wait two week for the secondary to complete could i freeze the beer to kill the yeast or boil the brew for this ? i brewed 1800 g liquid malt extract 1 k sugar in total including what i put into priming. before i boiled the malt extract and water i boiled around 100g dry saaz hops for i think 40 minutes , i tasted the brew before i transferred into secondary and it tastes good but not much bitter . curious as to why? any feed back would be appreciated, thanks

Hi Colm111, you do not prime in secondary you prime when bottling. I think the addition of camden tabs to the beer may have killed the yeast as they are used in winemaking to stop fermentation. I dont know if adding more yeast will work but I am sure the google knows.
Saaz is not a very bitter hop and boiling them in water instead of wort will result in poor utilisation of them.
There is a guide to kit brewing in the knowledge base that you should read I will post a link when I get to my laptop

Here[/url:2l87073p] is the link to the kit brewing article.

I also discovered that if you wait 24 hrs after adding camden tabs you can pitch more yeast. There seems to be some debate wether they kill or stun yeast but either way they make it ineffective.
