TOPIC:

Realistically, how would a home brew supply shop do there? 18 years 6 months ago #1

Just a sort of a general feeler question.

How big, or how much potential do you think the Irish market has for the homebrewer.

I'm lucky being out here in the sense that I have a local brew shop just 15 minutes away.

When I read some of the boards here, it seems like most are ordering from England, and that impacts brewing time, shipping cost etc.

This is purely hypothetical (for now anyway), but would a homebrew supply shop have enough custom to survive at home, or is the hobby very much in it's infancy.

The brew shop here has a great supply of products, but it doesn't require a lot of actual shop space.

We have some land back home, and were looking into the possibility of building a house, and perhaps a small shopfront if it would work. Obviously we would need to do a full conduct market survey before making any decisions, but I'm just putting feelers out within the core market.

We've been out in the states now for over 7 years, thinking about having a family, and moving back to be close to family, thats whats prompting this.

So, any advice would be appreciated.

Also, how far would you travel for your ingredients.
Our land is back home in donegal. Would you make a day trip that far to stock up, rather than wait on mailing from england, and if not, would you be more inclined to use an Irish store for mail order if prices were comparable?

Simple answer: Ask Bugno. Although I would say any homebrew shop in Ireland would just be a sideline income.

Unfortunatley I can't see a physical shop working here at the moment. Especially if it was off the beaten track. There are but a handful of homebrewers around and the cost of running a shop wouldn't be economical. Bugno has the right idea because I assume his storage costs are minimal with few overheads to worry about.
