Did anyone see the Horizon: Playing God program on BBC2 last night about the goats making spider silk and the yeast that excreted diesel?

There is a 5 minute talk here[/url:zqt0bodp] by an Irish guy who is trying to get people to nutritionally fortify and other biotech experiments at home. The title of the thread comes from the talk.

I just finished Rule 34[/url:zqt0bodp]
a major plot point of which is biotech homebrew. If anyone wants my copy they can have it btw.

I don't know anything about biology. But many of these "brew your own antibiotics" systems use yeast and the same gear we use. Could we end up either getting cheaper gear as more people use brewing gear? With microbreweries that brew things that are far from beer? With some government regulation to make sure we are not brewing infectious nasties?

hmmmm, doesn't appear to be the official meaning of 'Rule 34' (as per XKCD who invented the term).

The other major plot point is the official meaning of Rule 34. <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt=":cry:" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->
