I bought bottles of Spaten and Franziskaner from precisely those old vending machines in Germany in the early 90's. Remember, they were originally designed to dispense glass bottles of Coke, which is the same as bottles of beer from an engineering standpoint. They have been able to do beer vending machines for decades.

There may be a legal issue though. In the supermarkets, if you buy alcohol from a self service till, a staff member has to come along and approve the item with a swipe card and code.

I think it would be an awful idea btw but it does seem to be the logical conclusion of a super warehouse pub.

They have robot restaurants in Japan[/url:1cmyi2m2]. Ipad ordering in restaurants seems to be getting more popular. I could see that coming into pubs as well.

Makes sense, made by robots, served by robots. As opposed to craft beer, made by humans, served by humans!

Diageo have pour your own carlsberg or guinness tables in lots of places.
Edit:
Although i see what youre saying about vending machines - maybe for bottles etc. Vending machine technology has only recently been able to dispense bottles without shaking them. The old "drop it from a height" machines wouldnt have favoured well with glass bottles <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->.

Also, there might be the perception that drunk people and technology wont mix too well.
And then the whole thing of the barmans personality being an asset in itself. Obviously doesnt apply to night clubs etc though.[/quote:2a30k43g]
Ah I stand corrected.
Now you mention it - I think i remember hearing something before that it could be a legal thing.
