New crowd distilling in west cork. Drombeg Premium Irish Spirit. They don't say that it is a Whiskey, but presume that it is.

One of those lads was on the Business Show on Newstalk yesterday morning (along with Seamas O'Hara and someone else).

It's not whiskey. He kept referring to brown spirit, and that the market had nothing in the 18% to 22% abv range. I don't know how they're making it.

would that not be along the lines of irish mist etc.. distillers produce light stuf while they wait for the whiskey to mature. fairly pointless if its 18-22% . i dont drink whiskey but when i do i like a good burn not something you could drink a half a bottle of.

Tis indeed 22%.

Here are the bottle labels:

22% is one of those figures that's significant from an excise or Revenue commissioners point of view. Can't remember what it is. I think you might need a distilling licence to go any higher.

I've had this and it seems to be more of a whiskey liquer ala Irish mist but less in alcohol content.
I have to say I quite enjoyed it,there is a serious lack of low volume spirits in Ireland and it could fill the gap.I would be inclined to drink it as an aperitif, such as a pastis (not a fan),where as I wouldn't a whiskey.
