Adding tequila? 14 years 9 months ago #1

I was just about to bottle my beer (everyting's set up and I'm ready to prime the beer) and I thought what would happen if I added a bottle of tequila to it now?

Would it effect the carbonation process?
And if anyone has tried it, how did it turn out?

I've had French spirit beers- They are not at all nice. I presuming the tequila you want to get rid off is some cheap silver crap, in which case why ruin a possibly nice batch of beer. However, if it's a good gold then the question would be why do you want to ruin a nice bottle of tequila.

Desperado is a beer made with tequila that I have tried and to be honest its pretty rank!

I have tasted that desperado stuff once and was not impressed, this could be another example of, "just because you can do it does not mean that you should".

I've added spirits to brews before although not in anything like the volume you seem to be suggesting. I've added both whiskey and Rum to different brews to good effect, but in small volumes(100-200ml) it add a bit of flavour and alchol heat and also lets the yeast get on with carbing the brew.
I'm sure you can take it further than I've done and it really depends on what you're looking for!

Well I went for it in the end (almost)
For the last 4.5 litres I threw in 400ml of Olmeca tequila and some lime juice. Did a quick calculation and it should be around 5.8% which is close to Desperado beer (I actually do like Derperado)
