And if you come across a bottle of Göse (unlikely), or "Leipziger Göse" PICK IT UP. It might be your only chance. It's a SUPER, off-the-chart rare German beer style that is sort of like a Berliner Weiss (brewed with wheat, cloudy, and fermented with yeast and lactobacillus bacteria) but it also has coriander seeds and salt added.

-Yea, sour, salty, "infected", and spiced... -There's a reason it's rare! lol!

I'll trade you for something REALLY good if you manage to find and bring back a German Göse.
(I had some friends actually go to Leipzig and they couldn't even find one there so it's certainly not an easy challenge.)

I tried that syrup one when I was in Berlin last year, basically is so bad that they throw in syrup at serving to hide the taste. Can't understand how anyone could drink it !

Interesting to hear what you make of it ! <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

I love Berliner Weiss. So refreshing and only 3% ABV too.

There are a few places on beermapping[/url:29lwbe5s] that could do with some reviews if you have time. brewpubs etc.

I like it (without the syrup), too.
-I haven't tried the raspberry version but the woodruff pre-mixed bottled version is SUPER STRANGE. (Like marshmallow fluff and coconut flavor...)

When I was growing up my family (2nd & 3rd generation German-American) used to make a desert for us kids that was very reminiscent of Berliner Weiss with the green woodruff syrup; it was a mixture of marshmallows, dissected coconut, maraschino cherries, and I don't know what else, but the second I smelled that beer it INSTANTLY took me back 15-20 years and the taste was also very reminiscent.
-Again, it's DEFINITELY NOT my favorite beer, but it is very interesting to have an old "taste memory" triggered by a beer like that.

I had the raspberry one in Münster last year: it just buries the sourness so isn't nearly as good as the green one.
