Any body see the documentary entitled the same? Think its on C4 so ya can watch it back.
Edit: Oops forgot the link

I caught only a few mins of it over the weekend.
Its a kind of co-op.
They use local, ethical produce, but still aim to compete with your tescos etc.
They save money by doing things like using the oddly shaped veg that tescos make the farmer throw out cos theyre unsightly.
I think the key to it is that each member has to work 4 hours a month, saving on staff costs. Although, when i was watching it, im nearly sure i saw people off the street going in and buying stuff, it says that to avail of the service you have to be a member (maybe there is a different rate for members).

Now im sure any of us can pick a million holes in it. Eg having to retrain the staff once a month (but there maybe some paid regular staff)

So with that in mind, what about "The People's Pub" - you could probablly even run it as a club and get through some licensing loopholes. All the beer would be brewed on site of course .

Looks interesting... if anyone was to try this, my father and I were both bar managers and could probably help out. Although he has 30-odd years more experience than me :p

That's why nobody's done it already.

Its a massive fail in my book, he's trying to replicate a similar model that he saw in the states, but instead of working four hours a month and getting a 10 % discount, in the states it was 2 hours a month for a 40 % discount.
Even with the discount the food was more expensive than at the local tescos, just another middle class plaything for people with too much money and time on their hands if you ask me.

Yes, I was thinking that too.
Some of the money saving ideas just wont work - i saw a clip from the next installment, and they're selling spiral shaped cucumbers!!
