Another new brewer saying hello 18 years 8 months ago #1

I found this site because it was linked in northernbrewer.com's forums, in someones signature.

I'm living out in the US at the minute, just outside Washington DC. I'm from Letterkenny, up in Donegal, but have been living out here for a few years now.

Only just got into the homebrewing because of all the good microbrews I'd been tasting here.

Favorites are Petes Wicked Ale, Dogfish Head and Old Dominion Spring Ale.

I've brewed up a Doublenut Brown Ale so far, and just put a variation of that into my primary fermentor last night. It's essentially the same, only I used a dry Hefe yeast, pitched at about 55 degrees (I pitched the ale yeast at 75), and am hoping to get essentially the same overall taste as my initial batch, but with some banana/clove esters that you get from the Hefe yeast.

Anyway, great site, I'll be stopping in a bit.

Cheers

Welcome to the site VaBrewer. It's good to have an ex-pat (if I may call you so!). Come to think of it, us Irish can never be ex-pats, we are paddys for life!
Sláinte.

We sure are, I've been here 7 years, and people still can't understand me.

I still have a strong donegal accent, but I mean, it could be worse, it could be Meath!!

Welcome to the site. I'm always envious of beer drinkers in America because of all the wonderful microbrews which aren't available on this side of the Atlantic. I hope your new ale works out for you, it sounds nice.

Micro brews are making a big comeback here. The pacific northwest and the northeast are the big areas, along with parts of the midwest.

Where I am, it's good, I have a local homebrew supply shop 10 minutes from the house, and a couple of really good breweries, Old Dominion, Potomac Valley etc, and then it's just a hop in the car or train up the northeast coast and piles of beers to be had. There is also a good microbrew shop here, carries literally hundreds of styles, if its available, its there.

Although, I have yet to beat the pints of guinness from Blakes of the Hollow up in Enniskillen (my wifes from there), but I'm going to keep drinking until I do, at least, thats my excuse
