First Timer question 15 years 3 months ago #1

Hey,
long time lurker first time poster (and brewer!). I was making my first brew with a coopers kit and i forgot to add the brewing sugar to the boiling water and extract mixture. I had already added about 4 litres of cold water and then added the sugar. I stirred and the sugar did dissolve so will i be OK?

Thanks in advance..

Eh, me again - I think I may have killed my yeast, I was re-hydrating it as per the instructions on Beoir but I used boiled water and as I only had the floppy thermometer that came with my brewing kit I was struggling to get an accurate temp reading, it looked like it was around 26 - 28 degrees but I've no way of being sure - I added the rehydrated yeast to the mixture and nothing has happened so far? If I have killed it is it still possible to resurrect my brew?

26-28C shouldn't have killed yer yeast. Has it been long since you pitched it?
It's probably fine, might just need a little while to get going. I wouldn't panic just yet, but if doesn't take off you can always get a fresh sachet of yeast and just chuck it in.
Make sure you keep the wort at a decent temp too around 18-20C is good.

I know you have to go above 50 degrees C to kill bread yeast and brewing yeast tends to be hardier than its baking cousin.
