TOPIC:

Heading to Manchester Academy at the end of Jan to see a band from my youth (The Cult) and wanna have a few nice beers before hand.

Not familiar with Manchester at all -- can anyone recommend somewhere within walking distance of the Academy, which is part of Manchester University?

@rossa, thanks for the suggestion. Looks very good. A bit too far to walk but a modest cab ride. Could be a runner. Need to sort out accommodation yet and could base ourselves around there maybe.

Well as it turns out we ended up getting libations in the Lass O'Gowrie, which was 100 yards from where we were staying.

What a wonderful pub! Ok, the selection of real ales wasn't anything out of the ordinary really but the pub combines genuine old world charm with an 8-bit computer club and a comedy club!
