I just tried 1 bottle of the "mild brown" that I made from the second runnings of my brown ale (with steeped grains) and it has a TON of chill haze and it's only about half carbonated at this point. Not that good, way too much haze, I think I steeped some grains that shouldn't have been steeped...
Then moved on to De Molen Mout and Mocca 2. It's a collaborative brew, brewed with "Wijs & Zonen", who appear to own a Tea and Koffie house in Amsterdam (my dutch is pretty crappy and I'm just reading this off of the bottle. It is supposedly 10% starting with an OG of 1.098 and finishing at 1.028 but after loosening the cork cage it IMMEDIATELY shot to the ceiling and left a mark in it. -SCARY! I'm pretty sure it kept fermenting in the bottle down lower than 1.028 and it's probably closer to 11% ABV now. TONS of carbonation, HUGE head that lasted for about 4 minutes.
It's a coffee stout with Guatamalan Antigua and Cuba Dark coffee; personally it has WAY too much coffee for me.
Every pour I get 90% head (and it's not my pouring; it just has that much carbonation) and 10% liquid until it settles.
It starts out just punching you in the face with American-style coffee flavors but after the 3rd sip, it seems a LITTLE more balanced.
Good, but just a bit too much coffee for me. It's way unbalanced, which is probably why it's rated so high on beer advocate...
I'm definitely feeling the 10% ABV already and there's no way I'm finishing all 750ml of this tonight.
