Job Xmas outing to educate the great unwashed 15 years 6 months ago #1

I was planning on getting the lads i work with to go into town for an Xmas drink, and as a bonus get to visit two of the pubs i always wanted to visit (porterhouse and bull and castle). Are these two of the better pubs to get a decent pint of tasty brew? bearing in mind that when i told one of the lads i was doing home brew he asked me was i going to brew a Guinness **sigh**.
The reason behind going to these pubs was to try to expand their (and mine) experiences of beers. One of them only drinks guinness and mcardles, another has started drinking some pilsners from Lidl/Aldi and another will only buy Erdinger when there is a world of beers to choose from.
Any comments or advice would be great.

The city centre Porterhouses and Mulligan's don't do draught Guinness, which is a good way of getting Guinness loyalists to try something else.

These pubs, and more, are the blue and yellow pins on Beermapping[/url:3ggtcs0e].

I would suggest that when you are in the porterhouse or mulligans get your mate to have porterhouse plain,it really is a superb beer and helps to change guiness thinkers who have being convinced over the years that it is the only good beer brewed in ireland.

Got the lads into the porterhouse on Friday night, with all the intentions of going to the Bull later on but alas we couldn't drag ourselves out until the death. Got the lads to try a good few of the beers. Plain, Wrasslers,Oyster stout, porterhouse red and hop head (bottle) and Galway hooker.
The Oyster stout was the hit of the night with the Guinness drinkers, with the porterhouse red a close second, but i liked the Hop head (pity they didn't have it on draught).
I had a very sore head the next day but it was worth it.
