i just use a big plastic ladle type thing from Tesco.it doesn't have to be huge. but stay away from wood for sure, as it can't be sterilized properly! Just recently I found a stainless slotted strainer type thing in Ikea whcih I bought and bent straight which I am now using.

I should mention that Noby had trouble with head retention, in some of his beers, after switching to this solution, but I did not.

My latest bottled beer (the Weiss I brought to the tasting session last Thursday) did have head retention issues though and I have my suspicions.

I switched to Tesco plain white bleach, where I had been using Milton, with no trouble. I am going to switch back and see if the problem goes away.

We've used it for our IPA, the Wit, our latest "New Peculiar" and the two we bottled last weekend. I didn't notice any head retention problems.

Perhaps n1mbus, DrJohn and TheBeerNut can back me up though as they have tried three of the above very recently.

What bleach did you use?

Well, I did with one particular batch anyway. Maybe I was falsely accusing the bleach/vinegar.
My wheat beer is fine.

I think it's Parazone thin bleach. With Chef white malt vinegar

If you search Google for "Parazone thin bleach" ICB is first on the list!
