Hey there folks. Im about 3 days away from using my kk for the first time and am a little unsure of a few things.... Do I need to add sugar too the kk when I syphon from my fermenter into it and how much sugar should I use?? Iv a batch of St.Peter's ruby red on the go(5gal batch) Its been fermenting nicely at 18oc for 6 days now and isn't far from been ready to be syphoned into my kk.
I have the 8gram bulbs of co2/nitrogen and figure that these are no good for carbonating my beer,or are they? Is it impossible to force carbonate my beer with these?Or is adding sugar to the kk critical to getting carbonation?
Please help! <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? -->

For that beer, I'd have said dissolve 80-120g of sugar in some of the finished beer, depending on how much carbonation you want, the lower end is probably better for that ale.
Barrel and wait 3-4 weeks until it's ready. You can force it out with the gas earlier, but it's not as good and it's a lot sweeter than it should be. It will bebefit from the waiting around.
The put the lot

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I was really very unsure of the right amount of sugar to prime a keg with as Iv only ever primed bottles b4. I think I'll put 100g in the keg? Just to be safe.
So the bulbs are only a tool for dispensing the beer I take it.
Do you know of a way to force carb these king kegs like you would do with a corni or is it impossible??
I really wish I bought a corni to be honest. <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt=":roll:" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: -->

The king keg doesn't take more than 10psi before the safety will blow, I'm not sure if that's enough to force carb.
I have kinda done it before with the 8g bulbs but if you prime you really have to wait until the condition comes on. I had primed and just wanted to dispense a bit early with the bulbs, it worked to have a beer, but it was better when it came into condition two weeks later.

Kng Keg is great for English cask style ales in my opinion, let that Ruby kit chill in the keg for 3 weeks and you'll have a cracking pint. To be honest becuase of the style, it'll not be as good force carbed in a keg.
