A New Jersey Yankee in Rí na hÉireann's Court 15 years 9 months ago #1

Greetings everyone, thanks again for having me at your meeting last night. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and I had a great time.

As I mentioned to a few of you last night, I will be traveling to the Galway area this weekend and to the Cork and Kinsale areas the following weekend. If anyone has any suggestions as to what my girlfriend and I should do, see, eat, drink, etc. please let me know. We're heading out there somewhat blind and any guidance would be much appreciated.

Also, I will be in Dublin until August 8 and on my own during the weekdays. Once again if there's anyplace I definitely need to see while I'm in Dublin please let me know. If anyone wants to meet up for a pint somewhere drop me a private message and hopefully we can work something out.

Thanks again all!

*Please excuse my, I assume terribly grammatically incorrect, cut and pasted attempt at Gaelic.

It's worth taking a look a Beermapping.com (not just for Ireland[/url:3bkeh8c8]; it's a great website generally).

In Galway the Salthouse[/url:3bkeh8c8] is unmissable. Oslo in Salthill is worth walking out along the coast to.

In Cork you've got The Franciscan Well, the Bierhaus, and the Abbot's Ale House as beer specialists and then the Hi-B, Mutton Lane and lots of other nice quirky pubs, many of which have Franciscan Well beers on tap.

I've always liked the Tap Tavern in Kinsale. It used to carry the Kinsale Brewery beers back when there still was a Kinsale Brewery.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, keep them coming! I need some non-beer related stuff (though I could probably sneak in a whiskey distillery if there's one you all recommend) to do for the gf as well, so if there's anything at all in this area that you're a fan of let me know about it!

For some non-beer related things to do (the pubs don't open til lunchtime, after all), in Kinsale I'd recommend visiting the Charles Fort which is a little way out of the town on Kinsale harbour - the guided tour was excellent I recall. I think they do boat trips around the harbour which would be a different way to see things. Also get yourselves out to the old head of Kinsale for some great coastal scenery.

In Cork city, the old city Gaol is worth a look, I'm pretty sure they did a tour there too but it's a few years since we were there.

If you're driving between Cork and Dublin on that trip, come off the motorway and stop for a look at the Rock of Cashel which is just awesome.
