Stopped fermentation?? 18 years 9 months ago #1

Hi guys, I'm brewing a Cooper's I.P.A. which was slow to start fermenting....now it appears it has stopped after what appeared to be a normal process once it did get started. The thing is, on my hydrometer the black line is still a little above the surface but there appears to be no activity. It's day 8 so I'm temped to bottle but the thing hasn't moved in almost 24 hours...What should I do?

Do you see a number by the black line? This will indicate the Specific Gravity of the brew. If the reading is the same for a couple of days then more than likely it's finished (or stuck).

If it's around 10 (1.010) or 12 (1.012) it's probably finished. If it's higher you may want to leave it a little longer.

It's right around 10, and upon closer inspection indicates it may have moved slightly overnight...

Sounds fine, leave it a couple of days and if there's no further movement it should be safe to bottle.

Cheers Bigears! U going to the meet on Thursday?

I certainly am, bringing my IPA, or what's left of it. As it happens Coopers IPA was my first kit (or rather my first successful kit, my first kit went down the drain)
