Just wondering if this happens to anyone else.
I have a fondness for Galway Hooker but if ever I have a few pints of it on a night out then I'm always suffering really bad the next day. And it's not due to volume, I can have more of other types of beer and be fine.
Nor am I getting it from the same pub the whole time.
Could it be an allergy? Surely though it would happen with all beers then?
Incidentally I've also found that if I drink any Innis and Gunn then I get a pounding headache inside half an hour, happened 3 times so far!
Anyone know of common elements in Hooker and I and G?

I'd say you'd be better pursuing this from the medical side than the beer side.

I have an allergy to Guinness ( a violent one )
And Carlsberg gives me an instant headache also

I have never determined the reason . I presume it has something to do with either a brewing salt or a cleaning product used in these brews . I have zero problem with anything which complies with the Rheinheitsgebot so far

I have two friends who say the same about Hooker and I have to admit that, to me, a few pints of Hooker always feels like a few pints of a stronger beer.

I've never drunk enough Innis & Gunn to get a hangover from it although it probably wouldn't take much.

I've also noticed that TSB and beers like will sometimes give me a slight headache almost immediately.

I feel sure this is NOT the case here but I remember seeing a BBC (I think) documentary some years ago about drinking and according to it there was at least one brewery in the UK which added a chemical to its beer to ensure the drinker got a hangover. Their logic being that you would think you had a better time than you actually had - bizarre!

I find that too with Innis and Gunn, which is a shame because i really like it, it usually take about 90 mins to hit me, a few time a have re-capped the 750ml bottle and put it back in the fridge becuase my head hurts so much, doesnt happen every time tho

I find the same with Bulmers, sometimes I don't even get to the end of a pint before it would hit me. Is it anything to do with methanol levels in the beers/ciders?
Innis & Gunn is wood aged so a part of that would be picking up some of those red esters which wood imparts and esters are definitely known to cause hangovers.

I always find that about 15 pints of anytyhing gives me a hangover, I haven't figured out why yet.....
