Burton Union Sets 16 years 1 month ago #1

Just got to reading about these yesterday, and I think I understand how they work. Fascinating stuff. Interesting that the last oak set is used for Marston's Pedigree.

Anyone know does anyone else outside of Burton and that general area use Burton Union Sets, or similar? Were they ever used by any brewer in Ireland?

Blacksheep use Yorkshire Square's. I don't know much about them or anything other than they are split level,a couple are slate lined and they need to recirculate the wort in the fermenters to keep the yeast in suspension.
and yes that does introduce oxygen which is generally seen as bad but seems to work for them.

Came across that when I was reading about them, but the photos don't really get the idea across. Having said that it's very hard to get photos of a Burton Union Set, but here's two.

This is from the Bass brewery:

And this is from Marston's. Notice the famous crosses on the barrels.

Clustering, but for beer making, not computing!
