Would seeking permission from the OPW ahead of time would solve the problem, do you think?

Alternatively, do you think somewhere outside DCC's sphere of influence would be different? Somewhere nice, with reasonably easy public transport access from Dublin city centre? Do other councils have similar by-laws?

I know we could just go ahead and do it and we might be OK, but we could very easily have a blue uniform appear and tell us "lads, you can't drink here" and then what?

I don't think anyone would give permission for this.If one of the homebrews exploded (how likely is that), and took out an eye, the person who controls the picnic area would most likely be responsible.

We had a bbq one year out side the B&C, and had to get insurance for 60,000,000 for one day, in case someone fell off a passing bus and burnt themselves. Basically we had to take full responsibility for anything that could go wrong. The picnic organisers would end up with this resposibility. Sorry to be negative.

And not to compare ICB'ers, to anyone, but if the shit that drinks in public places each day can get away with, why shouldn't we.

I say go for it, but bring a portaloo. Dublin Zoo used to give part of it's area for bbq's and parties. and i have a friend up there. Will give him a shout if you like.

However, the event policy[/url:10qdkrft] (s.6) generally precludes private parties, so no.
Edit: and a public event is non-runner for the reasons outlined by silenus above.

As far as I was aware, it's generally ok to have a beer (or any alcohol) in public as long as you're not making a nuisance of yourself even though it's technically illegal to do so. The legality (or in this illegality) of doing so just makes it easier for the authorities to stop people from continuing to do so once they've started to cause a disturbance.

I'd say anything official like an ICB get together would be jumped on (and stopped) quicker than you could say, [i:yx7isqeu]"but it's only a 3.2% session ale [/i:yx7isqeu]guv'nor!!"

Did you get the chance to check Wicklow? Its on the dart line so pretty handy for some (some more than others <!-- s;-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";-)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;-) -->)

I was talking to 9beanrow over the weekend about having a picnic this summer if we get one. Obviously some home made beer would be featuring but I didn't think of the legalities of the thing.
