I don't see this happening, nanny state has to protect people and all that.

My guess is that he'll leave it unchanged.

I think to raise it would be foolish because of the reasons in the article, and it's unlikely to be reduced as he is unlikely to want to be seen giving a break to the pubs/breweries while cutting public sector pay and welfare rates etc.

That's just my guess though.

It would be stimulating industry....it would be the sensible thing to do, but the aspect that high excise will save us from ourselves, whilst ignoring the fact that people will go over the border and spend it is the clincher I think.
