TOPIC:

Ireland excise duty on beer 9 times the European Average 16 years 6 months ago #1

apologies if this has come up before, just noticed on the ernst and young site this report
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.ey.com/IE/en/Newsroom/News-releases/...ds-top-beer-producer">www.ey.com/IE/en/Newsroom/News-r ... r-producer
it includes some irish specific material such as how out of kilter we are with the rest of Europe on where we buy our beer (us 30% in offies versus 'them' at 60%) and what we drink 61% lager, 33% stout, 6% ale.
interesting reading.
ooh, a citation for the site is given too!

We're raped with tax unfortunately. No more so than with spirits where there's about a 30-35% difference between the prices in Dublin and Newry. Same goes for the price of beer really. I got 8 bottles of Hoegarden in Sainburys for £8 (which is going to be about €9-€10).

Is there anywhere in the "republic" of Ireland that you'd get 8 bottles of something like that for a tener?

Is there a price comparison list for the Porterhouse here vs. the one in London?
