I had meant to post a comment here earlier - went to Carcassons a few weeks back. lovely walled city. Had Pilforth Blond and Brune, both 6.5% approx, 33 cl btls. The brune was very nice -never had it befoe. Also had Trencavel (Cathar Beer from the region). Also 6.5%. Each beer approx 6.50 euros a go in a bar so you would not get drunk in a hurry!!!! Also had Edelweiss bier blanche which was ok. - not as good as Hogaarden or Vedett white by any means.

Local wine and food was great also - btl of local wine for 8 or 9 euros in restaurants. Sun shining and clear blue skies - sure why would anyone be complaining!!!!

Had all the above in Le Bar A Vins in the cite mediavele in carcassone - would recommend it if you get there and stay in the old city if you can too - much more atmospheric.

PS - In summer season Ryanair fly to Carcasone from Dublin Cork and Shannon

Yeh, I find the price of bars(etc.) in France to be quite steep..
Mostly because the supermarkets sell the same beers extreamly cheap!
But, that's paying for the good life eh <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

<edit> Btw, yes the Pelforth brune is nice! I got 3, 650ml brown swingtops of them when I was in France. 2 Euro each I think. The empty bottles returned with me.

+1 on the Pelforth Brune. When Heineken muscle in on a territory they have an eye for the good stuff.
