Back from holidays. 16 years 8 months ago #1

Hi All,
I'm back and I have to say that I was a little disappointed with Milan. If someone had told me that the entire bloody city closes for some or all of the month of August I would have gone at a different time of year, but no one did and I ended up looking at a lot of brewpub shutters. I found quite a few brewpubs and beer bars, so I know they exist but I only managed to get into one of them. I don't understand how businesses can close for an entire month a year. Does not compute.

The place I did manage to enter was Fermento Art and Pub [url:3rhrdsux]http://fermentoaep.com/[/url:3rhrdsux] It looked pretty empty and I had to ask if it was actually open but I put that down to the fact that it was early evening and the Milanese tend to wait till later to go out. I had some cracking beers, all of which were "Crudo" unfiltered and unpasteurised as the barman managed to make me understand (I have as much Italian as I do Swahili and his English was about the same standard). As, in my experience, the quality of the beer is a decent indication of the quality of the food, I persuaded the two ladies in my life to join me for a pizza.

They arrived, tired and hungry (it's a bit of a walk from the metro), but when we tried to order, it turned out that the pizzas were off. The menu was 80% pizza and the rest was char grilled meat, which does not suit my pescetarian wife. As you can imagine, this cut my visit short, as we went elsewhere for some pasta.

It's not just milan that shuts down basically the whole lot of italy does. we deal with italian suppliers and have to make damn sure that all is correct before the end of july or we are screwed for up to two months due to backorders

I wasn't sure if Milan had typically southern European sensibilities, but it sounds like it does.

Sorry for for your troubles, have a batterburger.
