Hi Mc Cleverty and welcome to the site.

The bottle collecting thing can be a bit of a pain when starting out. Most people use 500ml bottles as far as I know. To gather about 80 of these for 2 batches is going to take some time! The best way to get them quickly is to find a pub that sells bottled beer and recycles the bottles (Bulmers bottles are retunable so no good)they are usually happy for you to help yourself. Somewhere in cork city? any of you Cork lads know?

Of course many would say the best way is to buy them full and empty them yourself!

Best of luck

I dunno about 1 litre bottles, but I certainly haven't found emptying 500ml ones too much of a chore. Get a few lads over and you'll have a stack of them ready to go in no time

One disadvantage of bottle conditioned beer in 1liter bottles is that once you start the pour, even if you're really careful, that the chances are your second pint from it will be cloudy, the pour really needs to be finished in one go.
500ml or pint bottles are a lot better as they make one portion (pint glass) and you can avoid the cloudiness.

UNLESS... You get your hands on some good manly one litre steins

Thanks Guys 16 years 11 months ago #6

This is great ,a forum that people actually answer back ha ha ha .

Anyway cheers guys for that ,
Regarding the 1lt bottles i think i may leave that alone for the reason ill have to drink all 1 lt in 1 go and that would be terrible ha ha ..

I had over 60 bottles that i used for my last few batches but the wife is sick of seeing empty bottles,

anyway i was sick of washing all 60 and had a problem sterlizing them didnt have a bucket big enough to do it in 1 go ,, i know im lazy should be sitting there doing this and not complaining ha ah

Will have to re-think this bottling crack ,as i have 2 buckets in hotpress ready for bottling Saturday

Thanks for the reply lads

Heres a question for ya

Is there anywhere homebrew shop in Ireland that you can actually go in and have a look around i know there is a few in the Uk but i buy all my stuff on line from a place in Ireland ,great service but would like to go and see ,also i know there was an Expo in Cork last month ,but by anychance do any members meets up and beer taste ,there is a bigger world of homebrew products out there and different tastes .
Ive tried mainly Coopers Range i like Miller and trying to find a beer that tastes like this , but this time i have coopers Caveza ( i know i spelt that wrong ) they say it taste like Corona,

Anyway Folks leave ye too it hope to hear back from ye soon

Mark
