Finding out what skunked beer really tastes like 17 years 3 weeks ago #1

Just in case anyone is interested, a way to find out what skunked beer really tastes like. Well, you need sunshine of course. I have a feeling this has been done before of course

An experiment with Heineken[/url:18geq25w].

Frankly, I was amazed at the difference between the two. Three days in the sun really made it astonishingly awful! I always thought it was more subtle, as I could never get that taste that others were describing.

In Ireland you can just pick up a bottle of Abbot Ale, to appreciate the fine aroma of skunk spray.

Well, it was a simple experiment.

It's funny, I struggled to find skunky flavours in Shepard Neame beers, and I know Thom in particular is sensitive to it, so felt a bit stupid not really getting anything more than a slight staleness occasionally. I can't recall Abbot's now that you mention it Sean. But nothing prepared me for the flavour on the beer left out for three days. I managed three tastes, but had to spit the last one out. I guess this was extreme, but I know what to look out for now. Foul.

Oddly enough, the burnt plastic flavour is something I pick up from beers using hop extract. Not all mind, but some (in brown bottles I might add).
