Off Beer 17 years 1 month ago #1

I made a batch of Belgian Blond Ale about two months ago and a about 3 - 4 bottles had an off taste.
The off beers were also noticeable in that they were darker in colour than the good ones.
I have read all the usual off beer descriptions and can't really establish which one applies. i would describe the flavour as "round" masking the bitterness. It would be similar to when you get a bad draught pint of lager in the pub. As the problem was confined to a small number of bottles I am thinking it was either due to unclean bottles or air getting in i.e. oxidation. Has anyone had similar experiences?

the odd time some of my bottles taste different from each other from the same batch.some better than others and some a little worse but usually in the same ballpark . they may just have got some dirt in the bottle or some old yeast that might give off something a little odd <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt="" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->

The fact that they are darker would lead me to think about oxidation.

The one thing that was different for this particular batch was tht I used the red crown caps from The Home Brew Company.
I usually use the gold ones and I think they have a better liner than the red ones. I think oxidation is the most likely cause from a few dodgy seals.
