Thinking of heading up to Belfast for a night next weekend for a cask ale fix - need to read up in the "Beer and Cider in Ireland" book later, but anyone got any tips for best establishments to visit based on recent experience?

Best bets are the John Hewitt and The Crown Bar in the city centre. Out of town is the Dirty Duck in Holywood...

I have beer in The Vineyard, Ormeau Road, Belfast. You'll be able to pick up a very good selection of craft brewed beers here - both Irish and English as well as German and Belgian offerings from the Macro guys.

The Duke of York is a must, and around the corner is the Merchant Hotel, if only for a poke around.
If your eating, i recommend No 27(forget what street), but very good food.
Molly's yard, the hilden brewery, is only an eaterie, so no beer without food, and it's tiny with little chance of a table.
If your in the Crown Saloon, they have a pub crawl guide for all the victorian bars, worth doing.
