Welcome aboard, Diarmuid.

Well, hello all.

My name is Andrei. I grew up in Sydney, lived my last 2 years in Melbourne, and landed in Dublin at the end of November. I have moved here with my wife and kids and should be here at least 1-2 years, but you never know where life will take you next...

I love beer and brewing. I have been home brewing for a long time now, but my beer education really took off when I started all grain brewing over 2 years ago. I will never go back to the kits. My favourite beer styles in no particular order are: weizen, wit, bohemian pilsner, american pale ale, munich helles.

In Australia there is a rapidly taking off micro-brewery industry. Quality can be variable, but there is a great selection of interesting beers from a lot of new breweries to try in most bottle shops (as well as the usual mega-brew lagers). I don't get the impression Ireland yet has that many micro-breweries. I hope to be corrected and pointed in the right direction for good local beers!

Anyone know any good bottle shops around Rathfarnham?

Hi Andrei, and welcome. Probably your nearest source of good beer is over in Dundrum, at Deveney's[/url:2xxyb4ne] off licence, though Redmond's[/url:2xxyb4ne] of Ranlagh isn't too far out of your way, and well worth the trip.

The number of microbreweries in Ireland tends to fluctuate: it seems like at least one closes for each one that opens. The right direction for good Irish beer in Dublin are the Bull & Castle and Porterhouse. And this website, of course.

hi folks, names tom from limerick, and i love to drink all kinds of beers said he staring at the floor and crying until he realised its an ok thing to do and then felt ok again, sorry where was i, oh ya.. had a go at brewing beer back in the 80s and had some good and some pretty horrific experiences, making me wonder at times why 1, i'm still alive and 2, why some of the guys who used to drink it with me still talk to me. Intending to jump back into brewing a bit again now though, hopefully with a wiser head on my shoulders this time thanks to folks like the ones in this community

There are plenty of experienced and friendly brewers on this forum who can help you get back into it again. I think we've all had out fair share of dodgy home brew over the years, but that's all part of the process. It helps us figure out where things go wrong and how to right them.

and based on quote below from above link my question is 'Can i use dried malt extract instead of sugar as advised? (and yes i wish i could write proper english)
