A T,
I am still considering what gear to buy in order to go all grain. What did you go for? And why? Anyone else with an opinion on this? All comments gratefully appreciated.

A mash tun is worth the investment along with immersion chiller in you don’t fancy building your own

Get a decent sized boil kettle (e.g. Leyland's 33L Plastic Boiler), a picnic cooler mashtun, and an immersion chiller and you're set. The rest of your equipment is the same. If I remember correctly Leyland's postage for up to 30KG was about £15 which is cheaper than H&G, maybe that's changed.

Obviously you'll also need grain which you may as well include in your order to bring up to the 30KG. I guess Grape n Grain are not an option if you're outside Dublin.

Hi Westbrew i wanted to get a 33ltr boiler but i also wanted to buy everything in the one place to save on postage. Leyland nearly wanted me to remortgage the house for the postage (that guy needs to have a chat with his courier) so the best selection and reasonable postage was hop and grape but they have no 33ltr boiler so i got the Bruheat 5 Gallon Boiler, INSUL. MASH TUN + SPARG ARM & TUBING/ CONNECTOR, IMMERSION WORT CHILLER, HOP STRAINER and grains, hops, yeast and a few bits and bobs. They emailed me today to say that it might take 2 packages to send it which would be double postage but said she would let me know before posting but she never got back to me so it looks like it will be only be £17 which is surprising cause i got 24kg of grain alone. I think the equipment i bought is just the essentials for grain brewing, hope this helps you <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Hi,

And in one fell swoop he has a better all grain set-up than I do. Have fun with your brew gear. That's years of brewing and quality beer in your future.

A T,
I’m thinking along very similar lines. Shame most suppliers don’t do the slightly larger boiler.
Good luck with new toys.
