American Looking for Work 17 years 6 months ago #1

Hey,

I am going to be graduating from an american university this year and I am interested in pursuing a career in brewing. I have done extensive reading and brew at home so I feel I have a relatively high level of knowledge about the beer making process. I found a way to obtain a work permit in ireland for four months and am trying to find a job (preferably in a major city) with a brewery. If anyone can point me in the right direction, or give me advice in any capacity I would greatly appreciate it.

Rysolan,

Not sure you have chosen the right country to come and work in the ‘real’ brewing industry unless you want to work for Guinness? – you could give them a try? As for small / micro breweries I think you could count them all on one hand including Northern Ireland! <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

I would assume your work permit will cover the whole EU? Suggest you try UK (which has 1000s)or just about any other northern European country except Ireland. ---- Sorry!

If you do land here [b:2qwenh3n]do[/b:2qwenh3n] look us up for a beer and chat most members are delighted to meet travelling brewers.

Good luck

I'm with Westbrew on this one. Ireland has a wonderful drinking tradition but an awful brewing one. Having chatted with most of the micro brewers in Ireland, I'd be surprised if any of them could afford to pay you a living wage to work for them.

I'm in the final stages of a masters degree in brewing which I took on as a long term study part time, but I don't expect to get a job in a brewery in Ireland, well, not a job that will pay the bills at any rate.

Britain on the other hand has a great many breweries who might be prepared to take on an enthusiastic beginner.
