Returning to Dublin 17 years 6 months ago #1

About a year and a half ago, the wife and I spent three weeks on holiday in Ireland, a week on Achill Island, one near Kinsale, and the last in Dublin. While in Dublin we crossed paths with Séan at Messrs. McGuires, and we enjoyed our stay so much we're returning to Dublin the week of 27 March to 5 April 2009. We'd be happy to meet up with a crew of craft brewers while we're there. I was just going to contact Séan through the realbeer.com site, but his promoting of this site gave me the rather obvious idea that posting here might get noticed by a few more Irish folk. We'll likely be staying somewhere in the vicinity of the Christchurch/Temple Bar area, and have no intent of hiring a car for the week. We're game for public transit and walking a few km, so don't count us out if a little travel might be involved.

BTW, if McBush somehow wins in a little over a week here, we might not be too eager to go back.

Bull & Castle will be right on your doorstep so there won't be much walking involved at all

After a few pints the porterhouse is a short walk away

Last time we found that the Porterhouse had great dark ales and was within slithering distance of where we stayed. We camped out on their wi-fi to keep my clients at bay for the last week, too. Bull & Castle's selection of commercial brews was impressive, but we found Porterhouse more to our liking. The Porterhouse's "band on a shelf" stage was also quite interesting.

I often found myself wishing that "shelf" would give way, especially when that annoying git with the acoustic guitar is beating the crap out of the same old songs every night he's on. Woodsey, is that his name?

[size=75:r88batkk]One of the reasons I haven't been in the place for a long time (even before I left the country!). That and the deterioration in staff manners, and the place just getting too jammed. And that was after being a regular in there once or twice a week for years![/size:r88batkk]
