Pub: The Palace Bar.
Address: Fleet St, Dublin 2
Style: Traditional pub,
Reason for choosing: My 'local', inasmuch as a denizen of Bray can have a local in town. It draws a good mixture of people, staff are friendly and helpful, and they have a good pint.
Pub: The Long Hall
Address: South Great Georges St, Dublin 2
Style: Traditional pub
Reason for choosing: The only pub I can think of thats is so militantly determined to avoid any form of changes (including the carpets!) - Dunnes Stores were unable to buy them out and had to build their fancy head offices around them, which makes it worth a visit for that reason alone! I haven't been in there for a while, and while the initial impression is that its a dim, spit and sawdust place, its got plenty of character and good pints.

has a great session and it's definitely off the beaten track for tourists even though it's just across the river from Christchurch and behind the Four Courts.
If you end up in Athlone, Sean's bar is supposed to be really good.
I asked the same last month. Scroll down to the botton of this page[/url:69dozmiy].
