id agree with Slattery's and the grave diggers, but one of my favourite old time pubs is Mulligans.

Pub: Mulligans
Address: Poolbeg St
Style: Old-fashioned
Reason for choosing: old, dark, stinky toilets, great afternoon pub, very few chairs, a proper boozer!

another one much more central is the Sackville Lounge just off O'Connell St beside Clerys. I'll probably be having few scoops in there tonight

Hi all,

Thanks for the suggestions, I can't wait to get over there and try them out myself.

A couple of other things you might be able to help with...

1. We're heading down to Graiguenamanagh while we're over there, Oz's family were all from there and he spent a lot of his childhood in the area. Any good pubs to note in the area? Drink related things or places we shouldn't miss?

2. I hate to come up with such a cliche'd question, but we're also thinking about getting some music in while we're over, maybe in the form of a singing pub nr Bunratty or Limerick - but again a true, proper one and not one just full of American tourists?

Haven't been down that way in a while. My Dad's from St. Mullins which is a stroll away along the river (if the tide is out) from Graigue. There was an old, bottle only, no draught, pub in Glynn which is also near-by but I was chatting to my Da last night and it, sadly, has been done up. Might still be worth a look though if it's still run by the same man.

If you are looking for a pub more Limerick way you could look at Tara's in the Heritage Town Ballina/Killaloe.

You know the beer scene is there and Alison has trad every other friday. A quick call could draw some musicians out for a special if required.

If you wan't I could get contacts for Alison.

Taras specialty beer house in Ballina co Limerick? It's on the shores of Lough Derg in Clare so you could get video of Oz ramming the bridge with a boat before heading up to the pub.

There is a description here www.economist.com/daily/diary/di ... d=11826680 of the ideal British pub. The ideal Irish pub is also half hardware shop and the owner it the local undertaker. The locals describe him as "The last man who will let you down" Foxy Johns in Dingle used to be this. The location was ideal for sneaking out of the back off mass (where all the men stood) after 15 minutes and doing the secret knock to gain entry.

How about Biddy Early's in Inagh Co Clare?
